Offered is a very rare, scarce and desirable pair of gilt brass and marble figural candlesticks depicting frolicking squirrels. These were made by Cornelius & Company of Philadelphia, PA, in the mid-19th century circa 1840-1860's. Cornelius & Co. made a name for themselves in the early lighting industry and their products were elegant and refined. This pair of girandole candleholders measure 14" tall from the marble base to the top of the brass candle cups. The marble stands themselves measure 5 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" deep. Each brass casting has three squirrels. They are in excellent, preserved condition and both brass and marble have a beautiful patina. I've included pics of the back sides as well. They are almost 200 years old and are not only beautiful and functional, but lend a Victorian Classical ambience to a home. There is no damage or repair, and each girandole has nine (9) "coffin"-shaped hanging crystal prisms. I will remove all of the prisms and separately pack each one so that they will arrive in perfect condition.
