Description

Title: Bausch & Lomb Zeiss 1891 Protar Series V # 2047828 format = 4 1/4 x 6 1/2" Wide angle lens Brass Serviced MECHANICALLY: Solid Brass Bausch & Lomb Rochester, N.Y. Wide Angle lens found in a wet cellar of a old house in Pa. It was a disgusting, rusted corroded mess. I used a Ultrasonic cleaner 5 times on it and my spanner tools and large slip joint pliers, to get it apart. The corroded broken aperture blades were removed (see Photo) , interior of lens was cleaned and all the glass elements and put back together. All threads unscrew nicely, F:stop ring reads F:18~45, turns nicely. OPTICALLY: 130 year old lens , loss of black paint, no diaphragm, 33mm threads and retaining ring included. 36mm diameter for a lens board, O.D. Optics are clear , uncoated tiny scratch circular on front element, no big deal. USE: Wet plate cameras in 4x5", or 4 1/4 x 6 1/2" film plate Kodak Cameras and others. This was a panorama wide angle lens used in 1891~ 1913 years. No shutter, use a lens cap, its a F:18 wide open lens, which will focus with a very sharp image. Note: Astigmatism is a lens fault that causes a point of the focusing plane appearing as a line on the focal plane. In anastigmatic lenses the fault is corrected by careful combination of lens elements. The correction of astigmatism of photographic lenses is known since 1889 when Paul Rudolph developed the first Anastigmat lens for Carl Zeiss. In 1890 this Zeiss lens was named Protar. In 1883 the company started making camera lenses, mainly lens types of Carl Zeiss. In 1888 Bausch & Lomb produced the lenses for the legendary roll film camera Kodak No. 1 of George Eastman and Frank A. Brownell. Bausch & Lomb was also a well respected manufacturer of leaf shutters. Bausch & Lomb's "Unicum" shutter was one of the best shutters of its time. Initially the company co-operated extensively with German optics and glass makers, but from 1913 onwards the company started making its own optical glass. feedback UPDATE: I leave professional positive feedback only and work out any and all problems if they happen.
