Antique FOO DOGS Set 2 CHINESE QING DYNASTY Hand Carved Wood OLD Temple Pair Genuine circa pre-1912 [the end of the Qing Dynasty], possibly much earlier Each is carved from one solid block of wood which has been beautifully carved and hand painted/coated in many different finishes over their LONG life span Wonderful 3-D Hand Carved Details As is traditional, one is slightly larger than the other. Left side dog is approx. 4" high, with a 2.5" x 2.25" base Right side dog is approx. 4 3/8" high, with a 2.75" x 2.25" base A stunning and auspicious pair. These were displayed for protection and good fortune Very good antique condition, one thin/minor crack in the wooden base of one of the dogs which does not affect the structural integrity of the piece and is just cosmetic. These are approx. 125+ years old and do show age-appropriate wear, especially to the painted finish- many layers of worn paint & worn lacquer plus dust which simply adds to their charm. See all pics and use zoom as pics are part of description. Beautiful color and patina to the set, gorgeous. Bottom of these pieces show a circular outline of worn paint and an inset cut groove, which suggests that these were originally mounted on poles, which is where they would have been displayed in a Temple. The groove slots do line up perfectly when placed together so they may have been at opposing ends of one special pole or Temple decoration GREAT for a collector and will look lovely on display- Very charming.
